Verizon Faces Injunction for VOD Patent Violations – Must Pay $2.74, per Sub, Per Month

Back in August, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia awarded ActiveVideo Networks $115 million, ruling that Verizon infringed on four TV patents owned by the company. Activevideo had since sought an injunction against Verizon, claiming they approach Verizon to use their technology back in 2005 -- and that Verizon began the fight when Verizon took legal action against Cablevision for using the patented technology. Last week ActiveVideo got their injunction, announcing via press release, that the injunction is effective May 23, 2012 -- and until then Verizon must pay sunset royalty payments of $2.74 per subscriber per month. Verizon is busy appealing the injunction.
