Earlier this month Time Warner Cable had a significant outage in the East Village of New York City. The company has posted an interesting look at what caused the fire over at their official company "Untangled" blog, noting that the outage began after an underground steam pipe blew a leak that triggered an electrical fire. "It took the better part of the day to identify the problem, dig in, separate the cable out and splice in a new piece of fiber-optic cable," notes Time Warner Cable's Jeff Simmermon. "Each of those hair-width fibers has to be reconnected to precisely the correct wire, or else the whole thing doesn t work."
