Qwest Adds Just 7,000 Broadband Users In Q2 – DOCSIS 3.0 available in 60% of Qwest markets now

According to Qwest’s second quarter earnings, the company added just 7,000 new broadband subscribers on the quarter, down from 40,000 new subscriber additions during the first quarter of this yea, and 33,000 new subscriber additions this time last year. According to Qwest, the company added roughly 52,000 new fiber to the node customers during the quarter, but they lost 45,000 DSL users who disconnected from slower DSL service, which in many markets tops out at 1.5 Mbps — and simply can’t compete with faster cable service. Qwest’s earnings call transcript is worth a read, in which Qwest COO Teresa Taylor talks about how DOCSIS 3.0 is now available in about 60% of Qwest’s network, and how Qwest isn’t entirely certain what’s behind an overall sag in broadband adds this quarter for most carriers.
