IPTV Now Reaches 45 Million Worldwide – France Top IPTV Country At 23%, U.S. Third At 16%

45 million consumers now use IPTV services, according to new data from Telegeography. The group notes that's a growth rate of 38% during 2010, driven by the fact that 40 different telcos launched IPTV services during the year -- bringing the grand total of global IPTV providers to 200. Telegeography notes that France remains the leading country for IPTV (23%), followed by China (16%), the US (16%), South Korea (8%) and Japan (4%). While Europe lays claim to the biggest number of IPTV subscribers (40%), the firm notes that the Asia Pacific region is seeing the fastest growth overall. Most of the U.S.'s 16% is of course driven by AT&T U-Verse, which provides IPTV over VDSL. We confirmed with the firm that this number also includes Verizon FiOS -- even though FiOS TV isn't technically IPTV -- it's RF video delivered over a coaxial connection, with only widgets and video on demand delivered via IP.
