Comcast Still Not Sold on Over The Top Video – Insists Internet Video to non-Footprint not Profitable


Over the last year or so there had been some rumors that companies like Verizon could look at offering some kind of over-the-top Internet video version of FiOS to customers in non-traditional FiOS footprints. It's a natural extension of Verizon's Flex View On Demand service, especially given that Verizon increasingly has the CDN and transit infrastructure in place to handle such a system. Comcast was also rumored to have been considering such an offer, but in August CEO Brian Roberts shot down the idea, insisting it simply wouldn't be profitable (he didn't show his math). Comcast CFO Michael Angelakis reiterated that skepticism this week at a conference, insisting Comcast still has "not really seen a business model that really works for us."
