Comcast this week announced that the company will be giving away free 802.11n home gateways to customers this holiday season that sign up for higher-end Comcast services. According to a press statement, the Xfinity Wireless Gateway combines an 802.11n hotspot, a DOCSIS 3.0 modem and VoIP hardware in one device. Only new customers who subscribe to the company's Blast!, Extreme 50 or Extreme 105 Xfinity Internet tiers can get the device for free. Comcast's actually playing catch up here to both AT&T and Verizon, who have both been offering free Wi-Fi routers to U-Verse and FiOS customers for several years.
